Biography

Abdul Kader Baba is a highly recognised, qualified IT practitioner and trusted advisor.  Abdul is currently the Chief Technology and Information Officer (CTIO) for Infrastructure South Africa within the Presidency of the Republic of South Africa and also a non-executive director for Computer Aid International SA.

Infrastructure South Africa is an infrastructure centre of excellence and is established as a single point of entry for infrastructure planning, management, and delivery. Infrastructure South Africa is a catalyst for closing the infrastructure investment gap and meeting the infrastructure target set out in the National Development Plan and provides best practises in project preparation, leadership on infrastructure planning, technical and financial support for nationally prioritised infrastructure projects and programmes. Computer Aid International is a not-for-profit organisation active in the field of Information and Communication Technologies for Development. The vision to provide technology access to disadvantage children in rural areas.

Abdul has recently been selected as the Global 100 leaders in the HOTTopic,net form the UK media network. He is currently a member of the Institute of Director of Southern Africa (IODSA), Independent Chartered IT Professionals (ICITP) Leadership council as well as the CIO Council of South Africa.  His strength lies in setting business and IT strategies, developing large solutions architectures, managing system development, and leading cohesive teams for implementation. Abdul chairs and presents at many Business IT Leadership conferences both locally and abroad with a passion on how technology will transform and enable business value. He is a Technology evangelist who serves on various boards and IT advisory bodies as part of his contribution to influencing South Africa’s 4IR goals and aspirations. Abdul is also the recipient of the International Men of Valour Awards 2019 and 2023 respectively.

Abdul started his career in the banking industry, worked extensively within SAP Business Consulting, Insurance, Logistics transportation, Media, and Advertising industries respectively.  Abdul also has extensive experience in Enterprise IT Architecture where he held various technical technology roles in one of the largest bank in Africa. Abdul served as the CIO of Skynet as well as the Group IT Director of the TBWA Media group and Econet Group prior to his current role.

Abdul holds a B.Comm Honours degree in Informatics as well as a Master’s degree in Business Leadership (MBL).
