Biography

Passionate about bringing the next billion Africans online, Tim is the Commercial Director of Project Isizwe. Every morning, Tim wakes up to connect the unconnected, a personal mission that has driven Tim’s success in managing one of the largest free WiFi projects in Africa. Tim graduated from Oxford University in 1989 with a 1st class honors degree in Engineering Science. In 1994, Tim moved to South Africa and developed a career in IT, co-founding BCX in 2000 and incorporating Airband, a wireless ISP in Durban, in 2006. Tim was the chair of WAPA (Wireless Access Providers Association) South Africa between 2016 and 2021 and is still an active member of the WAPA management committee.
